Kevin Muscat takes step closer to Chinese Super League title

Published 17th Oct 2025

Rangers managerial target Kevin Muscat has taken a step closer to sealing the Chinese Super League title.

The Ibrox side are closing in on a deal to make the Australian their next manager but will likely have to wait for his services.

Muscat is currently manager of Shanghai Port who don't finish their domestic campaign until November 22.

An eventful 4-3 win over Qingdao Hainiu on Friday morning kept Shanghai Porto top of the table with just three games left to play.

It opened up a five point gap on their closes rivals - although second-placed Chengdu Rongcheng and third-placed Shanghai Shenhua play each other later in the day.

Steven Smith will take interim charge of the Light Blues for their Premiership clash with Dundee United this weekend.

It is unknown whether Smith will still be in the dugout when Rangers return to Europa League action away to Brann in Norway on Thursday.
