Glasgow councillor hits back at Wyndford demolition criticism
The local authority is facing a legal challenge before four tower blocks are ripped down next month.
A senior Glasgow councillor is rejecting claims the local authority should be carrying out an environmental impact assessment before demolishing flats in Maryhill next month.
The Wynford Residents Union is starting legal action against the local authority over concerns about people living nearby being evacuated before four tower blocks are torn down.
Nick Durie from the group said: "We know hundreds of families will be evacuated before the blast and an exclusion zone will be set up.
"I don't understand why a report is not being carried out when this area is home to protected species."
Ruairi Kelly is the Convener for Housing at the local authority and says there is no legal requirement for an environmental report to be done beforehand.
He told Greatest Hits Radio: "A severe amount of planning has gone into this operation, there will be risk assessments, method statements and the work will be done by approved contractors.
"The council has also been an active participant in a focus group with Wyndford tenants to discuss these plans and what they see as the future for the neighbourhood.
