Dog rescued after major emergency callout at Devil’s Pulpit

Fire engines and mountain rescue teams rushed to Finnich Glen this morning

A dramatic emergency response at the Devil’s Pulpit this morning turned out to be a mission to save a stranded dog.

Fire engines, mountain rescue crews and police units were dispatched to Finnich Glen, near Killearn, shortly after 11am.

Initial reports of the large-scale operation sparked concern at the popular beauty spot, but emergency services have since confirmed the dog has been safely rescued.

No injuries have been reported.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.32am on Monday, 21 July, to reports of a dog stuck in the Devil's Pulpit, Killearn.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and specialist resources to the scene to support our emergency service partners.

"The dog was safely rescued from the glen.

"Crews then left the scene at 1.27pm after ensuring the area was safe."

Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.20am on Monday, 21 July, 2025, officers received a report of a dog having fallen at Finnich Glen.

“The dog was safely recovered.”

Finnich Glen, made famous by its appearance in the TV series Outlander, has been the site of several rescues in recent years due to its steep, slippery terrain and fast-moving water.
