Davide Ancelotti is 'first choice' to take over at Rangers, according to a report.

The Ibrox managerial hotseat is still vacant after Barry Ferguson departed at the end of the campaign.

Davide, son of Carlo Ancelotti, has been tipped as one of the frontrunners alongside Steven Gerrard and Russell Martin.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague now claims Ancelotti is keen to take over and believes he is the favourite for the job.

The report suggests discussions in London progressed well last week and that a resolution could be concluded in the coming days.

Balague's column for the BBC also says Ancelotti has also asked former Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric whether he would join up with him at Ibrox - and that the Croatian international "didn't say no".

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed Davide has not joined up with him on Brazil international duty as he pursues a managerial career of his own.

The talks come in the backdrop of Rangers' imminent takeover by 49ers Enterprises.

The American based group are set to buy a majority stake in the Govan side.
