£21,000 charity boost transforms Glasgow school playground
Wooden Spoon has helped revitalise the outdoor space at Clydesmuir Primary School
A Glasgow primary school has been given a major playground makeover thanks to a £21,000 donation from Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby.
The funding has revitalised Clydemuir Primary School’s outdoor space, creating a new multi-surface basketball court, an outdoor learning and theatre area, and an extended trim trail—providing pupils with a safe and engaging environment for both play and learning.
Scottish Rugby international and Glasgow Warriors star Kyle Steyn attended the official opening, celebrating the impact the new facilities will have on pupils’ health, wellbeing, and education.
Wooden Spoon Glasgow Chair Al Kellock, a former captain, said the project was about giving every child the chance to thrive.
He said: "Seeing the passion and dedication of the team at Clydemuir Primary—just up the road from Scotstoun—inspired us to support this project.
"This new playground encourages active, creative, and collaborative learning, making a real difference to these children’s lives."
Councillor Clare Steel, Convener of Educational Services at West Dunbartonshire Council, praised the project’s impact.
She said: "This investment will boost pupils’ self-esteem, enhance their learning, and help develop key skills for the future.
"Thanks to Wooden Spoon, the children at Clydemuir Primary now have a fantastic space to play, interact, and grow."
Wooden Spoon has supported life-changing projects across the UK for decades, granting more than £4 million since the early 1990s.
Last year alone, it helped over 113,000 children through £1 million in grants.
Funds for projects like Clydemuir Primary’s playground are raised through events such as the annual Wooden Spoon Glasgow Dinner.
