Police seize cannabis worth £150,000 after two people searched in Motherwell

Police in North Lanarkshire have seized cannabis worth £150,000 after searching two people in Motherwell.

Police Scotland said officers "acting on intelligence" searched a man and a woman on Muir Street on Friday, which led to the drugs being recovered.

A 40-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

They are due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday.

Detective superintendent Steven Elliott said: "We are determined to protect the public from harmful criminality by disrupting sale of illegal substances and preventing them from being circulated on the streets of our community.

"Information from the public is crucial to our work and we encourage anyone with information or concerns about drug-related activity in their area to contact Police Scotland on 101.
