Celtic have been unsuccessful in their appeal against the red card shown to Auston Trusty in Sunday's draw against Hearts.

The USA international was initially shown a yellow card by referee Steven McLean for bringing down Pierre Landry Kabore in the 77th minute of the match.

It was recommended by VAR John Beaton that McLean should take an on-field review of his decision and upgraded the booking to a straight red card.

Trusty's sending off was appealed by Celtic but the Scottish FA have upheld the decision meaning his one-match ban will still stand and he will sit out of Saturday's match at home to Falkirk.

The tribunal outcome read: "Claim Dismissed.

"Red card for sending off offence A4 – Denying the opposing team or an opponent a goal or an obvious goal scoring opportunity as defined by Law 12, is re-imposed with immediate effect."

Celtic Response

Celtic have responded to the outcome and say they are 'disappointed' in the decision being upheld.

A club statement read: "Clearly we are very disappointed at the outcome of today’s appeal.

"The VAR Protocol requires that VAR only intervenes when there is a 'clear and obvious error’.

"It is difficult to see how the original yellow card decision is a clear and obvious error and accordingly, VAR’s intervention by the refereeing team was not consistent with the rules.

"We await the written judgement but will be ensuring further discussions with the SFA on the matter as we seek to understand the rationale for this and other decisions."
