Aberdeen have been granted permission to speak to St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson.
The Pittodrie club have been without a permanent manager since Jimmy Thelin was sacked at the start of January.
Various names have been linked with the vacancy over the last two months - but Peter Leven still remains in interim charge.
It now looks as if Robinson in the front runner to take over with both clubs confirming talks will take place.
Robinson has been a huge success during his time in Paisley - leading the club to three consecutive top six finishes.
The Northern Irishman also won the League Cup this season and has taken the Buddies into Europe.
An Aberdeen club statement read: "Aberdeen FC has this morning been officially given permission to enter formal talks with St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson regarding the vacant managerial position.
"The Club will provide an update in due course."
A St Mirren statement said: "St Mirren Football Club can confirm that we have been approached by Aberdeen FC to speak to manager Stephen Robinson in relation to their managerial vacancy.
"Aberdeen have met a contractual clause in Stephen’s contract so the club has granted them permission to speak to him regarding the vacancy.
"We hope for a swift resolution to this matter and will keep supporters updated."
