Children and young people in Canvey Island will now have a platform to actively participate in shaping the area’s investment and regeneration plans.

The newly established Canvey Island Pride in Place Children and Young People Board is designed to elevate youth voices in local decision-making.

Building on the pre-existing youth board structure managed by the Schools Sports Partnership, the new board expands beyond sports, addressing broader concerns relevant to young people and their communities.

Members of the board are not only consulted; they will have active decision-making processes, including having control of a £5,000 budget earmarked for youth-led projects.

Discussions have already taken place ahead of the board's first meeting, with young participants identifying local priorities such as enhancing the seafront, creating engaging local activities, improving Canvey Lake, and bolstering sports and educational opportunities.

In collaboration with the main Canvey Island Pride in Place Board, the youth board ensures a reciprocal exchange of ideas.

Dedicated representatives will attend key meetings of the Pride in Place Board to ensure young voices are considered in strategic decisions.

Young people can join the board by applying through their schools.
