Woman dies in house fire near Saffron Walden

A woman has died following a serious house fire in Elmdon, near Saffron Walden.

Two other people were also injured and taken to hospital with burns and smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were called to the scene of a well developed fire on Ickledon Road, Elmdon at 11.18pm yesterday.

When crews arrived at the address, they reported the whole building was alight, and it took hours for them to tackle the fire and minimise the damage to the neighbouring property.

We're told an investigation will be carried out to find the cause of the fire.
