A man has been charged with attempted murder following a serious collision in Westcliff that left a 50-year-old victim in critical condition.

The incident took place on Crowstone Road on Thursday, 16th April, when a white Mercedes C Class car, registration YD14 OHT, was reported to have struck the victim before fleeing the scene.

Initial reports mistakenly indicated the victim was in his 40s, but he is in fact 50 years old.

He received medical attention from passersby, police officers, and emergency services before being transported to hospital.

James Wallace, aged 26 and of no fixed abode, has now been charged with attempted murder and handling stolen goods.

He is remanded in custody and will appear at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Monday, 20th April.

Police continue to seek information regarding the movement of the white Mercedes, particularly around Sutton Road, Crowstone Road, and Britannia Road on 16th April.

Anyone with information or footage from the surrounding area is urged to contact the authorities as the investigation progresses.
