A fire has broken out on a vehicle carrier on the A12 southbound near Witham, leading to a full closure of the road between Junction 22 and Junction 21.

According to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, firefighters are at the scene and battling the blaze, which has been made more challenging due to a difficult water supply.

Nine crews are currently involved in the effort to extinguish the fire affecting the vehicle on the hard shoulder.

Essex Police and National Highways are also present at the scene.

Traffic Diversion

Drivers are being urged to follow a diversion route due to the closure.

The recommended route involves exiting the A12 at Marks Tey Junction to take the A120 towards Braintree, then proceeding on the A131 towards Chelmsford at Panners Interchange.

The diversion joins the A130 at Sheepcotes Roundabout, continuing to re-join the A12 at Junction 19, Boreham Interchange.

As road users navigate the diversion, officials have thanked the public for their patience.
