A two year old child has been seriously hurt after being hit by an electric bike in Clacton.

It happened on Pathfields Road at around 9pm, and the rider failed to stop.

The electric bike involved in the collision is described as having a scrambler design with red handlebars.

Tendring District Commander Chief Inspector Stuart Austin said:

“I understand the local community will be extremely concerned following this incident.

"We know the dangerous and anti-social use of e-bikes, e-scooters and motorcycles impacts residents across town. We are committed to tackling the issue.

"During a two-day operation at the end of last month we seized 27 vehicles and e-scooters. This work will continue.

"Officers from our Neighbourhood Policing Team are working alongside specialist roads policing officers to target those who ignore the law and put others at risk.

"A child has been hurt, and we are working at pace to locate the person responsible.

"I urge anyone who can help to get in touch."
