Residents are being warned of two months of “disruption” due to resurfacing works at an Essex recycling centre.

The works will take place at the Barleylands Recycling Centre, off Barleylands Road, Billericay from today (Monday 8th June). Basildon Borough Council which runs the site says visitors will be asked to wait at the entrance and be ushered in by staff.

The council also says waiting times could be around 20 minutes. Residents say it’s a “vital” service. Christine Cox, 58, said: “I hope there is as little disruption as possible, so so many people rely on this recycling point and it’s very important. Two months seems a little long for this work. I am a bit worried about long queues, especially at weekends.”

The council says the site will remain open as usual throughout the works, opening and closing times will not be affected and the team “will be on hand to assist and manage traffic safely.”

A spokesperson added: “During this period, a section of the yard close to the recycling Centre will be undergoing works. As a result, there may be some temporary disruption while skips are moved and changed over. We kindly ask for your patience and cooperation while these improvement works are carried out. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.”
