12-year-old tragically dies following collision

Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a tragic incident in Pilgrims Hatch, Brentwood, where a 12-year-old boy died following a collision with a vehicle.

Officers were called to the Ashwells Road area at 5.40pm on 7th June after reports that a vehicle had struck a child, resulting in very serious injuries.

Despite immediate medical intervention, the boy sadly passed away.

Launch of murder investigation

A murder investigation has commenced, with arrests made in connection with the incident.

A 15-year-old boy and a 43-year-old man from the Pilgrims Hatch area remain in custody on suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe from Essex and Kent Serious Crime Directorate expressed condolences to the boy's family and noted the evolving complexity of the investigation.

She urged residents, who have not yet provided information, to review any CCTV footage from 8am to 7pm on the day of the incident and report through the dedicated public portal established for the case.

Though early in the investigation, police are confident there's no ongoing threat to the community, with the incident viewed as isolated.

Chief Inspector Terry Fisher, Brentwood district commander, acknowledged the profound local impact and the investigation's anxious nature for the family.

He called for the family's privacy to be respected, both personally and online, emphasising the distressing loss of a child.
