An 18-year-old who died in a collision in Aveley earlier this week has been remembered as “one in a million” by his family.

Essex Police have identified the young man as George Herd.

George lost his life when the blue Mini Cooper he was a passenger in collided with a black Kia Picanto on Ship Lane near Thurrock Football Club at 11.05pm on 20th January.

George was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a heartfelt statement, his grieving family said:

“Our beautiful, kind and caring George. We as a family are devastatingly heartbroken.

“George truly was one in a million...He really was the gentle giant of the family. He would have made an amazing husband and father one day, and his life was just getting started.”

The family thanked those who attended the scene, including emergency services, adding, “We are comforted knowing everything possible was done.”

Investigation into the collision

Essex Police have confirmed a second person involved in the collision has since died.

The driver of the Kia Picanto, a man in his 60s, suffered serious injuries and passed away in hospital.

His family have been informed and are being offered support.
