Thurrock Council's newly appointed leadership has marked their induction with a flag raising ceremony at the Civic Offices in Grays.

The ceremony was officiated by Cllr Richard Bingley, the new Leader of Thurrock Council.

He was appointed during the annual council meeting on 27th May, following recent local elections held on 7th May.

Local Election Results and New Leadership

Reform UK achieved a substantial victory during the local elections, securing 45 seats.

Both the Labour Party and the Conservative Party won two seats each.

After this decisive election, Thurrock Council saw the appointment of Cllr Richard Bingley as Leader, alongside Cllr Alan Benson as Deputy Leader.

Bingley’s cabinet consists of members designated to oversee various sectors such as transport, finance, and community safety.

Cllr Bill Cook was named Mayor at the council meeting and expressed his commitment to the borough, naming Diabetes UK as his official charity due to their work within the community.

Council's Future Plans

According to council statements, its new leadership aims to foster a strong sense of community and pride among Thurrock residents.

Cllr Bingley highlighted plans to celebrate and strengthen Thurrock’s identity, given its location on the Thames Estuary, which he described as a key element of its heritage and future role.

The council has outlined plans to improve public services and infrastructure, driven by its cabinet comprised of specialised members.
