A 19-year-old man has been charged following a firearms incident in Billericay.

Johnny Smith, of Oak Road, Crays Hill, was arrested on Wednesday (14 May) and subsequently charged with attempted GBH with intent, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

He appeared at Basildon Crown Court yesterday (Friday) and has been remanded in custody to appear at the same court on June 13th.

The investigation was launched after an incident in Gardiners Lane North last month.

During that, a car was struck by a bullet after reports of a gunshot. No injuries were reported.

Police were subsequently made aware of a similar incident six hours earlier, when a white van was struck in Nevendon Road, in Wickford. Again, no injuries were reported.

As part of the investigation by our serious and organised crime unit, a number of people were identified, arrested and questioned.

Two men have previously been charged in connection with the incident.

Police remain on the lookout for witnesses, and anyone with information is asked to contact Essex Police.
