Teen charged after six officers injured while responding to Rochford incident
18-year-old charged after incident involving alleged threats to horse and possession of knife
An 18-year-old man has been charged with eight offences after six police officers were injured while responding to reports of a man carrying a knife in Rochford.
Police were called shortly before 6.55pm on Saturday, June 13, following concerns about a man allegedly behaving erratically and threatening a horse in a field near Warwick Drive.
Officers attended the scene and sustained injuries while attempting to arrest the suspect. One officer underwent surgery as a result of their injuries, while the remaining officers also received treatment. All six are now recovering and being supported.
Authorities confirmed that none of the officers suffered knife-related injuries.
A knife was recovered at the scene, and the horse involved was not harmed.
19-year-old, Harry Foster, of Warwick Drive, Rochford, has been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest, possession of a bladed article in a public place, and making threats to destroy or damage property.
Foster remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before Southend Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 17.
Investigators continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist with enquiries.
