Southend's 'Toy Drive' returns for its 13th year
The annual initiative has seen almost 45,000 donations
The annual 'Toy Drive' has been launched by Southend-on-Sea City Council ahead of the 2026 festive season.
The initiative is in its 13th year and has seen 44,702 donations reach more than 21,200 children and young people.
The council is hoping to expand its efforts this year to reach even more children that may not receive a Christmas gift without the community's generosity.
The council are asking for donations of new, unwrapped gifts, which will be sorted and wrapped by volunteers.
Cllr Mandy O’Connor, Cabinet Member for Children and SEND, said: "It’s that special time of year again, and the Toy Drive is back to help bring festive joy to children and young people across our city.
"Every year, I’m inspired by the incredible generosity of our community and the kindness shown to those who need it most. Supporting local toy shops while helping to make Christmas magical for others is a wonderful way to give back.
"We especially welcome gifts for older children and teenagers, as these are often the age groups that receive the fewest donations but can benefit just as much from a thoughtful gift at Christmas.
"A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated in previous years. Once again, we’re asking for your support to help make this Christmas truly special for vulnerable children and young people in Southend."
The scheme is set to run until Tuesday 15th December.
