A man has been charged with kidnap following an incident in Southend.

Kieran Mansfield, a 30-year-old from Stonehill Road, Leigh-on-Sea, was arrested after an alleged assault occurred on Woodleigh Avenue, Southend, at around 5.30 pm on Thursday 5th February.

Police launched an investigation resulting in Mansfield's arrest on Saturday 7th February, and he has now been charged with kidnap and three counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Mansfield appeared at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court on Monday 9th February.

He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on Monday 9th March.

Southend’s District Commander Dave Browning addressed concerns saying:

“I know that something like this may cause concern amongst residents, but I want to reassure you that there is no ongoing risk to the wider community.

“I’d also like to reassure everyone that local officers and officers from teams across the force responded quickly, carried out reassurance patrols in the area, made extensive enquiries, and gathered the evidence we needed to bring about charges.

“We appreciate that unexpected police activity can be worrying. Please be assured that these proactive steps are taken to keep everyone safe, support those involved, and prevent further incidents, so my officers are continuing their high visibility patrols to make it easy for you to speak with us if you have concerns or information.”

Mansfield remains in custody as he awaits his next court appearance.
