Abuser sentenced to 22 years as women thank Essex Police for justice
Scott Layfield convicted on 26 charges including rape and sexual assault
Scott Layfield, a 52-year-old from Leigh-on-Sea, has been sentenced at Basildon Crown Court to 22 years in prison, with a six-year extended licence and an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
Layfield was convicted in May of 26 charges, including rape and sexual assault, against six girls between 2011 and 2021, primarily in the Rayleigh area.
Following Layfield's sentencing, female survivors have thanked Essex Police for their efforts in bringing him to justice.
One survivor expressed gratitude towards PC Nick Schneider, saying his dedication helped alleviate the eight years of uncertainty.
She added: "Scott Layfield has made my childhood memories a blank space."
Another survivor said: "I would like to thank Essex police and PC Nick Schneider for the hard work and support they have put in to helping me."
PC Schneider, who led the case, praised the courage and endurance of the women involved.
He highlighted their role in ensuring Layfield is now behind bars, acknowledging their dignity throughout the process.
