Fake official who targeted elderly couple jailed for more than eight years
Robber stole around £100,000 in cash and jewellery after forcing his way into Woodford Green home
A man who posed as a government official before forcing his way into an elderly couple's home and stealing around £100,000 worth of cash and jewellery has been jailed.
Johnny Boy Doherty, 26, and two accomplices targeted the victims at their home in Woodford Green in January.
After being challenged for identification, the trio forced their way inside, claiming they were armed and demanding money. They ransacked the property before fleeing with cash, jewellery, a phone and a bank card.
Following a joint investigation by Essex and Metropolitan Police, Doherty was arrested in Hayes in April.
He later admitted robbery and has now been sentenced to eight years and three months in prison. He was also given a restraining order preventing contact with the victims.
Police say enquiries to identify and locate the other suspects are continuing.
