Neighbourhood officers have uncovered a significant amount of cannabis in Witham.

Officers attended a suspicious incident in Perry Road early yesterday, Wednesday 23 April.

The force intercepted a container which, when opened, they discovered a large amount of cannabis.

A man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug and later released on conditional bail whilst investigation continues.

Although the incident is in the early stages of the investigation, it's believed the force seized more than 300kg of cannabis, with an estimated value of up to £1m.

Inspector Phil Jackson, of the Braintree and Uttlesford Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:

“Our officers have again seized a significant quantity of suspected controlled drugs that now cannot be used to fund organised crime and blight our neighbourhoods.

“Drugs offences are not victimless crimes and bring anti-social behaviour and associated crimes into our neighbourhoods and can lead to further harm to residents and businesses.

“Cannabis remains a controlled Class B drug and our officers will continue to work to reduce possession and use of controlled drugs and associated crimes across our area.”
