Police officers from Essex Police have been commended following their "thorough" investigation into the murder of a man in Chelmsford.

The search team spent 45 days searching a landfill in Colchester, after a man's body had been disposed of in a bin.

Chelmsford Crown Court was told that the officers had searched over 5000m^2 of refuse.

The judge commended a "thorough" investigation, and said that there was "tenacity of all the officers involved."

What went on in court...

The commendation followed the sentencing of Ciprian Ilie, who received seven years in prison due to his role in cleaning up the murder scene.

He was found guilty last week.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard about the death of Cumali Turhan, whose body was "dumped in a commercial waste bin."

The judge said that Mr Ilie helped to clean the crime scene and dispose of the body.

38-year-old Ceyhan Dinler, who is wanted in connection with this death, was described as "still at large."

DCI Louise Metcalfe told us that he is suspected to have flown to Turkey.

"Tenacity" of police

DCI Metcalfe told us more about the investigation.

"We didn't ever envisage that a year later we would be in the position that we are in, and we are still not at the end of it.

"Its been a real rollercoaster, not just for me, but also the investigations team and the search team."

"The Crown Prosecution Service have agreed that had Dinler been in the UK now, and he was in our custody, he would be charged with the offence of murder of Cumali Turhan."

She said that her commendation was "quite unexpected."

"I am just really pleased that the judge was able to understand the complexity, and the tenacity of the officers.

"There is more to come, we are not finished yet."
