Police Constable Jonathan Steel has been handed a final written warning after being found guilty of misconduct.

The misconduct hearing, chaired by Assistant Chief Constable Glen Pavelin, took place on 27th July 2026.

PC Steel faced allegations of breaching police standards related to authority, respect, courtesy, and discreditable conduct.

Four separate allegations were made against him concerning inappropriate behaviour while socialising off-duty.

H2 - Details of Allegations

Allegation 1 claimed PC Steel made inappropriate sexualised comments to a female colleague, but was found not proven.

Allegation 2 involved placing his hands on two female colleagues; while physical contact was confirmed, it was deemed non-sexual.

Allegations 3 and 4 were proven, involving further sexualised comments and text messages.

The panel determined these actions breached policing standards and issued PC Steel a final warning, effective for three years.

H2 - Official Response

Assistant Chief Constable Glen Pavelin stated: “PC Steel’s behaviour fell below the standards we expect of our officers, so it was crucial these misconduct proceedings took place."

Pavelin emphasised the importance of mutual respect and courtesy among officers, particularly off-duty.

The decision underscores the police’s commitment to maintaining professional conduct and accountability.
