Police are investigating the reasons behind the delayed discovery of Garry Peterson's body, which was found more than two weeks after a fatal collision in Rainham.

The incident occurred at approximately 19:45 on 2nd October at the A1306 junction with Launders Lane, involving a single vehicle, a blue 2008 Peugeot 207.

Despite an extensive search by officers utilizing specialist dogs and a helicopter, no one was initially found at the scene, and the vehicle was recovered.

Peterson's body was recovered on 18th October in Launders Lane during proactive searches, following a missing person alert from Essex Police on 16th October.

Detective Constable Fayyadh Alwi, from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath, said: “Officers are providing support to Mr Peterson’s family and our thoughts remain with them.

“Our investigation has continued into the circumstances of the collision but we are keen to hear from anyone who may have information or saw what happened, including if they have any dashcam footage.

“Please come forward if you can help.”
