A cordon has been put in placearound an address in Pitsea to ensure public safety after officers executed a warrant at a property in Rokescroft.

The search, conducted on the morning of 10th March, followed intelligence-led investigations and led to the discovery of potentially hazardous or combustible materials.

A 37-year-old man from Pitsea was arrested on suspicion of making or possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances and remains in custody.

Authorities are working closely with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and emergency services to handle the situation.

As specialists work to secure and remove any dangerous items, a 100-meter cordon has been set up as a precautionary measure.

Approximately 100 properties have been temporarily evacuated during this operation.

Road closures include parts of Southmayne and Pitsea Road, and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes.

The exclusion zone is expected to be in place for a short duration, with further updates forthcoming.

Chief Inspector Paul Hogben stated that the proactive investigative efforts resulted in an arrest and seizure of a significant number of items.

He assured the public that no further individuals are being sought in connection with the investigation, and there is no perceived threat to the wider community.

Chief Inspector Hogben acknowledged the inconvenience the exclusion zone might cause but affirmed it as a necessary step to enable safe removal of hazardous materials by disposal experts.
