Penguin sculptures in Southend and Leigh have already raised nearly £300,000 for Havens Hospices.

They have waddled away from the city this week, but are available, all huddled together, at IPECO in Rochford on the 13th and 14th September.

The sculptures also go on auction this month.

In interview with Greatest Hits Radio Essex, Ella Huber-Brown, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Haven's Hospices, said:

"We think it has been incredibly successful, and we can measure that in many ways: from the income that we've already seen that we've achieved, through to the engagement we've had. We've sold thousands of maps, we've had over 5000 downloads of the app.

"And we have raised nearly £300,000 already for the Hospice, which means so much when you know that it costs more than £200,000 a week to be able to provide the care that we do for families."

She also said:

"It is very special for us to be able to put on this trail and give back to the community that support us and help us provide care to families, adults and children that need us. It costs us over £207,000 a week. We would not be able to do that without the community. Yes, this trail gives us an opportunity to raise additional funds, but it also injects a little bit of joy into our community by seeing the Penguins.
