A fire caused a building to collapse in Harlow early this morning in what police believe was a deliberate act.

Emergency services were called to the Paradise Club on Park Lane shortly after midnight. The fire is believed to have started between 12.30am and 12.50am.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We are treating this as arson. The building has collapsed, but at this stage we do not believe anyone has been injured.”

Nearby residents were advised to keep their windows closed due to smoke.

Police are working with Harlow Council and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to investigate what happened. Officers and members of the council’s community safety team will be in the area throughout the day.

Anyone with CCTV, dash cam or other footage is asked to contact Essex Police quoting crime reference number 42/93343/25.
