Olly Murs set to perform in biggest ever homecoming gig
The X factor superstar is headlining the final of three days at Chelmsford City Racecourse
Music fans in Essex are preparing for local lad, Olly Murs, to take to the stage in his biggest ever homecoming gig.
It's part of the county's new music festival, Chelmsford City Live, taking place across the weekend of Friday July 4 to Sunday July 6, bringing tens of thousands of music fans to Chelmsford City Racecourse.
Other headliners include ten-time GRAMMY Award winner Justin Timberlake and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Duran Duran.
The weekend also features performances from singer-songwriter Jess Glynne, plus Norwegian pop star Dagny, and four-piece collective CTRL.
Ahead of his performance, Olly Murs tells Greatest Hits Radio: "it's going to be a really special moment."
"I've done Essex shows before but doing it in Chelmsford always feels extra special.
"I grew up here basically, spent a lot of time here, and to do this in front of the fans of Essex and to say I'm one of your own, holds a very special place."
Olly added he feels in the best shape he's ever been.
The gig in Chelmsford will complete his 24-show UK tour, which saw performances in Plymouth, Brighton, Dublin, Glasgow, and London.
Olly says having his daughter, Madison, has "reignited something" in him and given him a "new appetite".
"I just want to make her proud, for her to see me as a performer and see what I've done in my career.
"I'm trying to be the strongest I can be as a performer, whilst being the best Dad."
Olly Murs will be joined on stage by Blue, Lemar, his friend and radio co-host Mark Wright, and The Rock Choir Vocal Group.
Entertainment is due to finish at around 11pm.
Shuttle services to the festival will run from Basildon, Billericay, Bishops Stortford, Colchester, Epping, Shenfield and Southend.
These will drop off at the racecourse, and then remain at the venue until the event finishes.
There will be an interpreter at every event over the weekend.
With warm weather expected, the organisers have encouraged punters to make use of the free water re-fill stations at the venue.
Each person can bring one sealed water bottle (max 500ml), and one empty reusable water bottle.
