New electric vehicle charging points have been put in place at Alexandra Street Car Park in Southend.

It is part of the city's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure programme.

The new chargers are operated by Zest and they replace the previous charging infrastructure.

These chargers are now live and able to provide drivers with access to charging facilities in the city.

Southend City Council says the move is part of a wider programme to expand electric vehicle charging in the area. The project is one of the largest local charging schemes in the UK, backed by £1.4 million of government funding and an investment from their partner Zest.

The investment comes at no cost to the council.

They say it supports their "ambition to be a leading green city."
