Mum killed after crash between pedestrians and car in Essex

The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs

Officers are appealing for any dashcam footage or information following a fatal collision in Westcliff yesterday evening (Thursday 12 December).

Police were called to reports of a collision between a car and two pedestrians at the junction of Hamlet Court Road and St John’s Road at just before 5.30pm.

A 52-year-old woman and her 23-year-old daughter were taken to hospital, sadly, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the 52-year-old woman died.

Her daughter’s injuries are described as not life-threatening or life changing.

The 31-year-old driver of the car, a black Suzuki Splash, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

She remains in custody for questioning.

The woman’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

Detectives are appealing for any dashcam footage form the area at the time of the collision or any information that will help them with the investigation.
