The daughter of the late MP Sir David Amess continues to seek clarity five years after his tragic death, expressing her frustration over "unanswered questions."

Katie Amess has been advocating for a public inquiry ever since her father, aged 69, was killed by Ali Harbi Ali at a constituency surgery in Belfairs Methodist Church, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex on 15th October 2021.

Ali received a whole life order following his conviction for the murder and preparation of terrorist acts in 2022.

Previously referred to Prevent, the anti-radicalisation programme closed his case in 2016.

The Government has initiated an independent review, led by former Conservative justice secretary Sir Robert Buckland KC, to investigate potential missed opportunities and learn lessons from this tragic event.

Katie Amess expressed her ongoing efforts for a public inquiry, emphasising the need for witnesses to be compelled to attend.

The review aims to understand the circumstances surrounding her father's murder and propose measures to reduce the likelihood of similar incidents in the future.

Ms Amess shared the emotional turmoil her family has endured, criticising the Government's response towards their colleague's family.

She continues to fear for the safety of politicians, following the murder of Ann Widdecombe at her home in July in Haytor, Dartmoor, Devon.

Describing Ms Widdecombe as "aunt Ann," Ms Amess recalled her friendship with her father and her supportive role as the family's spokesperson after his death.

The anniversary of Sir David's murder is a particularly poignant time for Ms Amess, who resides in Los Angeles, USA.

She plans to honour her father's memory with a mass and dinner, surrounded by supportive friends from her church.

Acknowledging the overwhelming support and messages she has received, Ms Amess noted the thoughts and prayers in remembrance of her father's life and service.
