More than 50 speeding offences recorded in one day in South Essex
Officers were carrying out a day of action on Canvey Island
More than 50 speeding offences were recorded by Essex Police in one enforcement day last week in Basildon, Leigh-on-Sea and Canvey Island.
The force and partners were carrying out a day of action on Canvey Island, discussing enforcement, education and community engagement.
As part of their enforcement activity on Thursday 7th May, they also arrested three people on suspicion of drug driving, and seized seven vehicles for no insurance.
They recovered a stolen vehicle after a driver failed to stop, and revoked a licence after a person failed a roadside sight test.
The 50 speeding offences were recorded at sites across South Essex, as drivers reached speeds of 44 in a 30mph limit.
Officers also dealt with 31 mobile phone offences, 28 seatbelt offences, and issued 7 careless driving tickets.
Essex Police were doing a 'Vision Zero' day on Canvey Island, which works alongside the Safer Essex Roads Partnership and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.
At William Read Primary School, teams spoke to more than 180 children and parents about staying safe. Later, at Knightswick Shopping Centre, they visited more than 20 businesses and engaged with more than 300 members of the public.
Officers also spoke directly with drivers at the roadside, helping them understand the risks of their behaviour. In some cases, this included drivers already close to losing their licence or unaware their insurance did not cover their journey.
