Man arrested then released over suspected people smuggling after group seen fleeing lorry in Essex

A man in his 60s has been released and told he'll face no further action

A man in his 60s has been released after initially being arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry into the UK.

Police responded to reports of four people seen running from a lorry in a layby on the A414 in Maldon just before 4pm on Monday 3rd August.

When they arrived, officers conducted a full search of the area.

The man initially arrested has now been told that he will face no further action.

Police have asked that people refrain from sharing footage online and instead provide information directly to them.

Anyone with information, CCTV, dash cam, or other footage related to this incident is urged to contact the police and quote incident 877 of 3rd August.
