Man charged with drink and dangerous driving after car reportedly drove wrong way on A12

A 41-year-old man has been charged with drink driving and dangerous driving after a car was reported to be travelling in the wrong direction on the A12 in Essex early yesterday (23rd December).
Essex Police received multiple calls just after 5am about a car allegedly driving the wrong way on the southbound carriageway near Kelvedon.
Officers found and stopped it shortly before 5.30am.
Khurram Bashir, of Springfield Park Lane, Chelmsford, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level is above the limit and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.
He is set to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on 31st December.
Adam Pipe, head of Roads Policing in Essex, thanked members of the public who contacted police about the incident.
“I want to thank members of the public for calling us and enabling us to deal with this incident,” Pipe said.
“Our officers are continuing with their investigation and we would urge anyone who has not already been in contact with us to get in touch.”
Pipe encouraged the public to plan their travel arrangements carefully during the festive season.
“We want everyone to be safe and enjoy their Christmas. Think ahead and make sure you know how you are getting home.
“Our officers will be patrolling throughout the festive season, as they are every day, so do not take the risk. Keep safe and call us if you have any concerns.”
