Man charged after reported sexual assault on bus in Braintree

A man's been charged with multiple offences, including indecent exposure, after he reportedly sexually assaulted bus passengers in Braintree.

Shortly before 5.30pm on Friday 27 December, officers were called to reports of an intoxicated man on a bus in the area of Coggeshall Road, Braintree.

It was reported he was exposing himself and assaulting fellow passengers.

During the incident, a teenage girl reported she was approached and sexually assaulted.

Responding officers were assaulted while making an arrest.

Charges have since been authorised against Graeme Hicks, 32, from Stanway.

He is charged with:

Sexual assault.

Indecent exposure.

Three counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker.

Possession of cannabis.

He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Monday 30 December, where he was remanded in custody until a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday 27 January.

Detective Sergeant Luke Howard, of Braintree CID, is leading the investigation.

He said: “We’ve carried out urgent enquiries into this troubling incident.

It’s really important women and girls feel confident in coming forward and talking to us when they feel unsafe, and when they fall victim to offending.

They will be met with a robust response and will receive support.”
