The M11 southbound has reopened after a serious multi-vehicle crash forced a lengthy closure between junctions six and five in the early hours of this morning (16 November).

Emergency services were called just before 1am to reports of a collision involving seven cars.

Several people were taken to hospital for assessment by ambulance crews.

The motorway was closed for several hours while police, paramedics, and traffic officers worked at the scene.

Officers faced difficulties as some motorists left their vehicles or attempted to reverse along the hard shoulder during the closure—a move police warn is both dangerous and against the rules of the road.

Enquiries into the cause of the crash are still ongoing.

Police have thanked the majority of drivers for their patience and cooperation during the disruption, but are urging anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage from the scene to contact them as soon as possible.

If you witnessed the crash or have video that could help with the investigation, contact the police directly.
