Lower Thames Crossing unaffected despite cuts to road projects funding
The Government has confirmed LTC will continue
The Lower Thames Crossing is unaffected by recent government funding cuts across various infrastructure projects.
Amidst adjustments arising from a £15 billion Defence Investment Plan, confirmations have come that LTC will proceed as planned.
While several road and energy projects face cancellations to accommodate increased defence spending, LTC remains a priority, reflecting its strategic importance.
The defence plan aims to boost annual spending from £54 billion to £80 billion by 2029, focusing on deterrence and preparedness.
Sir Keir Starmer emphasised the necessity of defence readiness to prevent potential conflicts, noting that reallocating capital budgets rather than cutting public services had been the chosen approach.
While some projects are halted, funding commitments to local road repairs, rail infrastructure, and public transport remain intact.
The decision underscores the government's prioritisation of strategic infrastructure amid broader budgetary reallocations.
