A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink- and drug-driving after a collision on the A12 at Witham.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the southbound stretch of the road, between Junctions 22 and 21, just after 11 o' clock yesterday morning.

A Kia Sportage and a lorry were both found damaged.

The lorry driver has been released under investigation while officers continue their enquiries.

Sergeant Pete Sharpe, from Essex Police, said: “We’re here to make our roads safe and prevent serious collisions.

"That means getting out on patrol, carrying out speed checks, and tackling dangerous driving.

“We’re asking all drivers to do their part too, and help keep everyone safe.”
