A local mental health charity is encouraging people to take 10 minutes out of their day, to make mental wellbeing a daily priority.

Mid and North East Essex Mind has launched their "10 habits in 10 minutes" resource, which they say will boost people's mental wellbeing.

The ten habits include: taking slow, deep breaths; drinking a glass of water to rehydrate and combat stress; and relaxing your muscles to calm down.

Natalie Britt, Mental Health Education Lead, told us:

"It is World Mental Health Day, but it is one day in 365.

"We really need to do these things on a quite regular basis to help us meet our needs and stay well.

"The 10 habits are kind of like early intervention, think of them like you would a shower or brushing your teeth, things that you can do every day."

Natalie said that habits are easy to do, but our lives are busy:

"We are so distracted, a lot of the time by our mobile phones, by various other pings and interruptions, and family and colleagues and emails.

"These things on the surface seem easy, but it is because they are so easy that they are often the things we overlook.

"For most of us, with the modern world driving us the way it does, and the demands of our lives, it can be easily overlooked.

"We actually have to deliberately and intentionally slow down and choose these habits."

She also said that:

"Mental health is quite complex, and it is about the connection between each one of us and the environments that we occupy.

"When things work really well with that environment we tend to be able to get our needs.

"When it's really difficult for us to get our needs met, we can then become unwell."

She thanked the team at Mid and North East Essex Mind for the community support they provide, and thanked the community for connecting with their services.

Their "10 habits in 10 minutes" resource is available on their website.
