As the search for missing Brazilian academic Vitoria Barreto continues, Essex Police have confirmed they have located her laptop in Brightlingsea.

The laptop was located on Saturday (14 March), and her family has been informed and is receiving support.

The 30 year old was reported missing on Wednesday 4 March by a friend who she had been with at Essex University on the previous day, Tuesday 3 March.

There have been several reported potential sightings of Vitoria in the Bradwell area, prompting police presence in both Bradwell and the Dengie area throughout the weekend.

On Sunday, 15th March, Vitoria’s loved ones were taken by the Marine Unit crew on the same boat journey she is believed to have taken in the early hours of Wednesday, 4th March.

One possibility being explored is whether Vitoria unmoored a boat from a Brightlingsea pontoon on 4th March. This has gained focus after a bag belonging to Vitoria was found near Copperas Road on Monday, 9th March.

The boat, later found drifting in the water near Bradwell-on-Sea, was reportedly missing a horseshoe-shaped buoyancy aid.

Vitoria’s family is encouraging the Brazilian community in Essex to display Brazilian flags in hopes of attracting her attention and creating a welcoming environment.

Detective Superintendent Anna Granger highlighted the significance of Mother's Day to Vitoria's family, noting the pain experienced by Vitoria's mother, Gleyz.

"Every single officer, staff member, and volunteer involved in this search would love nothing more than to reunite Vitoria with her mum – and we’re working around the clock to do that. We have seen first-hand the support from the community in Brightlingsea, and further afield, which has been offered to Vitoria’s loved ones."

The detective urged the community to continue looking out for Vitoria and to report any sightings or CCTV information.
