Laindon nurse set for solo charity walk between South Essex hospitals
Shona Perry is walking between Southend and Basildon Hospitals
This February, which is Heart Month, a nurse from Laindon is completing solo walking challenges to help raise funds for future patient improvements.
Shona Perry is a nurse in the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, which she is hoping to raise £1,000 for.
She is walking between Southend and Basildon Hospitals today, and will be taking on the Kent Downs 50km ultra challenge later this year.
She has a personal motivation for working in the centre, which helps those with heart conditions.
Her father passed away seventeen years ago from an undiagnosed heart condition. This now inspires her in her work and challenges.
Shona said: "He had a heart condition that he knew nothing about, and unfortunately was taken away from us in seconds.
"So what I do now is massively influenced by him. He's always at the forefront of the fundraising and any challenges that I do, because obviously losing someone so close to you is devastating.
"What I am looking forward to is I'm going to try and make myself stand out while I'm doing the walk, so I've got a few little bits, fancy dress wise, so people can recognise that I'm not doing some casual walk from one place to another. I'm doing it for a reason.
"I want people to hopefully stop me, say hello, and maybe donate.
"The most important thing will be getting the awareness out there."
She is raising money for the CTC.
