A 16-year-old girl from Hadleigh, Essex, has received a life-saving kidney transplant from a local journalist following an appeal by her mother.

Maria Solecki had sought help through a local newspaper after her daughter Maya's kidneys were severely damaged by an e-coli infection in January 2024.

The family faced challenges in finding a suitable donor, as Maria herself and other relatives were not a match.

In a surprising turn of events, Mama's appeal reached Emma Palmer, a 51-year-old journalist, who was found to be a match.

Operation went ahead in January, significantly improving Maya's health.

Maya described Emma as "my hero," expressing her gratitude.

Maria was incredulous upon learning that the journalist she contacted was the match.

Emma expressed her decision to donate as a natural choice, moved by Maya's condition and challenges.

The recovery process continues for Maya, but her quality of life has greatly improved.

Emma feels a familial bond with Maya and her mother, sharing a strong connection.

Maria emphasized the importance of organ donation, encouraging potential donors to help those in need.

The wait for a donor can be lengthy, and she urged action to provide others with the chance of a normal life.
