An investigation is underway after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted in Clacton.

The victim, a teenage girl, reported she was walking in an alleyway between Melbourne Road and Thomas Road on Saturday.

The man reportedly then fled the scene.

Detective Sergeant Jonathan Loudon, of Tendring CID, said: “Incidents of this nature do remain very rare, but we are treating this report seriously and I want to reassure the public we are devoting resources to investigating this.

“Support is in place for the victim and we are maintaining a visible presence in the area as we continue our enquiries.

“The victim is understandably shaken, but described the man as white, wearing all black and a balaclava and said he had a deep, raspy voice.

“We are mainly looking to hear from anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the area at the time, for example dog walkers or delivery drivers.

“Any piece of information, no matter how small, could prove pivotal to our enquiries.”
