Hadleigh GP surgery to re-open with a new name
The Hollies Surgery was shut down in November after the suspension of its lead doctor.
A GP surgery is expected to reopen with a new name in the coming weeks. The Hollies GP Surgery in Hadleigh is set to become Rectory Road Surgery, “marking a fresh start.”
It comes after the service was shut down in November as its lead doctor, Dr Olusegun Olatokunbo Omosini, was suspended. NHS bosses say patients will be written to very soon and they do no need to do anything at all.
Rebecca Harris, Conservative MP for Castle Point, announced the re-opening plans. She said it’s “an important step” towards reopening the site in the near future.
She added: “I know how frustrating this situation has been for many patients. I will keep pressing the NHS to restore full GP services locally as quickly as possible and will share further updates when I receive them.”
In early February, residents said they were “very distressed” and left “in limbo” as the closure rolled on. Health watchdog the Care Quality Commission raised concerns about Dr Olusegun Olatokunbo Omosini, who was later suspended amid drug allegations. Now, the NHS is finalising legal arrangements to allow a caretaker provider to operate from the building, with services expected to return once safety checks are complete.
William Guy, director of primary care at NHS Mid and South Essex said: “We are pleased to confirm progress in restoring services at the Hollies GP Surgery building. Subject to final legal confirmation and safety checks, we are working with the practice team to begin restoring services from the building by the end of March.
“A full range of services continues to be available to patients in the meantime. Patients do not need to take any action and will remain registered with the practice as services return to the building.
“We know this has been a difficult and frustrating time for patients and the local community, and we are very grateful for the patience and support shown. We will shortly write to all registered patients to confirm reopening arrangements and dates, with updates also shared via the practice website www.theholliesgpsurgery.co.uk .”
