Former Essex officer due in court charged with rape

A former Essex Police officer is set to appear in Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on 1st July 2026, facing a charge of rape connected to an alleged incident in north Essex in March 2013.
Mark Ling, aged 38 and formerly based in Ipswich, remains in custody ahead of his court appearance.
In addition to this charge, Ling is also facing separate allegations brought while he was a serving officer.
He has been charged with multiple child sexual offences, including eight counts of sexual communications with a child, two counts of cyber flashing, and one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
These charges stem from an investigation into alleged online interactions with girls under the age of 16.
Ling is set to appear at Ipswich Magistrates' Court for these offences tomorrow, Wednesday 1st July.
