Five hectare Essex wetland to help reduce flooding in the county
The project has been completed near Colchester
A natural flood management scheme has been completed at Fiddlers Hill, spanning five hectares near Colchester.
The project will see increased water capacity, providing a flood defence for the area.
The former farmland has been transformed into diverse habitats, with ponds that can hold water even in drier weather.
The Environment Agency say that the scheme will lead to more habitats, and enhanced biodiversity.
The three year collaboration between Essex and Suffolk Rivers Trust, the Woodland Trust, the Environment Agency, Essex Wildlife Trust and Essex County Council, aims to protect surrounding communities from flood risks.
