Firefighters tackle blaze in Halstead High Street flat
No one was injured during the incident.
Crews were called to tackle a fire in a first-floor flat above shops on Halstead High Street on Wednesday (15 October) at around 7pm.
The fire, which started in the living room fireplace, was swiftly contained by firefighters.
The flames were confined to the chimney and living room area, stopping the incident from spreading further.
No injuries were reported during the incident, and crews used thermal imaging cameras to search for hidden hot spots or any signs the fire may have spread to other parts of the property.
Station Manager Steve Bryne praised the response and urged the public to take steps to avoid future incidents:
“Chimney fires can happen at any time of year, but they’re more common as the weather turns colder and people start lighting fires again. If you have an open fire or wood burner, make sure your chimney is swept regularly by a qualified chimney sweep, only burn suitable, dry materials and never store anything too close to the fireplace or log burner.
Always use a fire guard, ensure embers are fully out before you go to bed, and never leave a fire unattended. Regular maintenance and good fire safety habits can prevent chimney fires and keep your home safe.”
